What can we do to improve our Year7 Camp skills?

As you know, we have found ourselves surrounded by a big bunch (18 kids) of Year 7s. These people aren't evil or anything, but to make sure they maintain some form of order, we should begin to brainstorm and evaluate some ideas on how to become better camp counsellors.

Any ideas? Please discuss in the comments area.

I think we should improve our decision-making mechanisms and organization. By that, I mean that we sort things out faster.

On my part, I suppose we also need to do things a little quicker than the rest of our Year 7 SURVIVORS.

We should also brainstorm certain things we need to talk about, at the next meeting/briefing.

Personally, I don't mind too much about people sneaking out of tents at night, so long as they don't hurt themselves so badly they have to go home. But still, we should be a little stricter to start with.
The Other Eugene will designated Eugene II (two). I suppose Gene might be the better abreviation (Sam for you, if you like...).

Off topic.... I suppose the only thing I'm worried about is gorging (I mean the rope climbing thing) and sleeping on the first night.

What concerns do you have?

I think we should be unilateral. We stick to whatever we agree collectively, so that we don't mess the Y7s' up.

I'll try and persuade them to call me Samuel. I'm not used to being called Sam, so I would have a slow response when called Sam.

We should also have a number-calling system (each camper a number, and they call out their number [from 1 to 18] to see who's here). We should have numbers too.

Walkie-talkies? Might need them for communication between the person at the front and the person at the rear.

ok

Walkie-talies? Yeah.

Number calling? I'm not too interested in that under normal circumstances. However, I think that's a good idea.

Remembering names is still the better way to address someone.

Also, we might need to create some map of where our guys are sleeping.

I'd like to see what tents they give us.
Let's hope they are the really nice Luxe tents. The only problem is that you share your space with your rucksack.

Let's hope I don't shit in my sleeping clothes. That was really sick and annoying, I ended up throwing it away.

Do we return on a Saturday or Friday?

I DON'T want it to be Saturday....

Just make sure to eat plenty of fruit/vegetables during the camp. And cereal too.

I think we should get to know the y7s more, so that we don't seem distanced from them (something that will happen with the adult camp counsellors for carrying out orders). I suggest we sit beside them in the bus (or during similar occasions), and talk more with them.

At the same time, we do need some authority.

No, it's not about the fiber. It's more about the "lack of time" before going to bed.

We should have got a real look at what bags those year sevens are using.

And be prepared to give them some help on the tent pegging. That stuff is really annoying. It take nothing short of a pneumatic drill to pound through the concrete.

My traditional solution to that is to use my foot to step the peg in. When done correctly, you don't really get bent ppegs.

And make sure we tell them to use the mallets with the rubber heads, because those white ones just disintegrate if used harshly.
